AAAA Region 8 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Monroe Area extended the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 8 this week by beating Madison County, 63-6. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Hurricanes.
Monroe Area took down the Red Raiders 63-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Lanier's dynamic duo of Taylor Grant and Onyx Berrios proved tough for Stephens County to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Grant threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns and Berrios had 152 yards receiving. Marty Sanders helped Lanier's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 124 yards.
Chaz Thornton was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 37 carries, he ran for 213 yards as the Indians fell to the Indians. Teammate Dionte Mayfield added to the ground attack by rushing for seven yards.
Lanier's Grant and Sanders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Grant has thrown for 1750 yards this season, while Sanders has 36 catches for 824 yards. Thornton from Stephens County leads the league in rushing with 1004 yards.
The Hurricanes led AAAA Region 8 in scoring this week after putting up 63 points on Madison County.
