The Lake County Baptist Lions will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Cristo Rey St. Martin Knights at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Illinois (Lake County Baptist is ranked 664th, while Cristo Rey St. Martin is ranked 671st).
Last Tuesday, Lake County Baptist was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 40-36 to Marquette Manor Baptist Academy.
Meanwhile, Cristo Rey St. Martin escaped with a win on Saturday against Round Lake by the margin of a single free throw, 52-51. The victory was just what Cristo Rey St. Martin needed coming off of a 69-39 loss in their prior match.
Cristo Rey St. Martin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chance Handy out in front who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Lebron Massey was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Lake County Baptist has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Cristo Rey St. Martin, their win bumped their record up to 4-8.
Lake County Baptist suffered a grim 58-35 defeat to Cristo Rey St. Martin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Lake County Baptist avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
