While it was all tied up 22-22 at halftime, the Pope John Paul II Jaguars were not quite the French Settlement Lions's equal in the second half on Monday. They fell 52-41 to the Lions. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Pope John Paul II in their matchups with French Settlement: they've now lost six in a row.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emmerson Alonso, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Meredith Bourdais, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks.
Pope John Paul II's loss dropped their record down to 8-13. As for French Settlement, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season.
Pope John Paul II will head out on the road to challenge Independence at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Independence comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last 14 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for French Settlement, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Springfield at 6:00 p.m. Springfield will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something French Settlement surely won't give up without a fight.
