While it was all tied up 31-31 at halftime, the Berthoud Spartans were not quite the Eaton Reds's equal in the second half on Tuesday. Berthoud fell 67-56 to the Reds. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Berthoud in their matchups with the Reds: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Berthoud lost, one person who can't be blamed is Declan Murphy. Despite the final result, he went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points and 0 assists. It was the first time this season that Murphy scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Erickson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Eaton had a senior duo take command as Mitch Haythorn went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 2 assists and Lucas Stone dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Haythorn has scored at least a third of Eaton's points. Ely Madaleno was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Berthoud's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Eaton, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.
Berthoud will head out on the road to challenge the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Eaton, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Sterling focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
