Clairton and Jeannette are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Clairton Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Jeannette Jayhawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Clairton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
Clairton can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent game on Friday. They breezed by Frazier at home to the tune of 50-6. Given Clairton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 203rd, while Frazier is ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clairton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drahcir Jones, who rushed for 99 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Jones was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 51 yards. Clairton also got help from Jaece Booker who showed off his sure hands for 120 receiving yards.
Jeannette had a rough season last year, but they look ready to turn that poor record around this year. They blew past Springdale, posting a 49-12 victory at home. Jeannette pushed the score to 49-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Springdale cut but never quite recovered from.
Among those leading the charge was Payton Molter, who threw for 293 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes. Another player making a difference was Noah Sanders, who gained 170 total yards and a touchdown.
Clairton's win was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.1 points per game. As for Jeannette, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's matchup: Clairton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 234.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Jeannette struggles in that department as they've been averaging 217 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Clairton against Jeannette in their previous matchup back in October of 2022 as the squad secured a 43-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clairton since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
