Baseball Recap: Pine Plains Has No Trouble Against Rhinebeck

Pine Plains came out on top against Rhinebeck on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Bombers blew past the Hawks 9-2. Considering the Bombers have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Brodie Rathjen and Warren Lounsbury were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rathjen tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lounsbury didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Rathjen also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pine Plains is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise. At bat, Rathjen got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run, while Lounsbury went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs. Lounsbury has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Ryan Blass was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Pine Plains: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Owen Zengen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Pine Plains' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Rhinebeck, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pine Plains will take on Dover at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Rhinebeck, they will face off against Spackenkill at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks are facing the Spartans at the right time seeing as the Spartans are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
