The Cumberland Pirates will head out to face off against the Argenta-Oreana Bombers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cumberland took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They never let Neoga get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won nine in a row.
Mia Holsapple made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Holsapple was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
In other batting news, Noraa Cross was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jude Miller, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Cumberland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Neoga only posted an OBP of .318.
Meanwhile, Argenta-Oreana made easy work of St. Thomas More on Tuesday and carried off a 10-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bombers.
Like Cumberland, Argenta-Oreana also got a great game from a two-way player: Elyssa Armstrong. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Armstrong has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Argenta-Oreana let Angelina Madrigal and Pyper Jones run wild. Madrigal went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Jones went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Jones also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Gracie Manning was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Cumberland pushed their record up to 7-10 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Argenta-Oreana, their record now sits at 8-10.
Cumberland came up short against Argenta-Oreana when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Pirates avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
