The Lawrence County Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Morgan County Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Lawrence County got the win against Martin County by a conclusive 16-1. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Boedy Maynard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Maynard was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eli Fletcher, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Gray Derifield was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Lawrence County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .765. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Morgan County challenged Lee County on Wednesday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 14-4 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Like Lawrence County, Morgan County also got a great game from a two-way player: Cooper Fleming. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Fleming also tossed a walk, which is notable because Morgan County is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-8 otherwise. Fleming was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Conner Fleming was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Grayson Hampton, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Lawrence County's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Morgan County, their record is now 8-9.
