The Luella Lions pushed their score all the way to 68 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 75-68 to Jones County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Wednesday (66), Luella still had to take the loss.
Luella's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sayon Watkins, who scored 21 points. That's the first time this season that Watkins scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Cameron Wright, who scored 18 points.
Kaden Douglas was his usual excellent self, scoring 15 points for Jones County. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Wold, who scored eight points.
Luella bumped their record down to 3-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for Jones County, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Luella's road trip will continue as they head out to face Rock Creek Christian Academy at 2:10 p.m. on December 28th. Rock Creek Christian Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Luella in their respective states (Rock Creek Christian Academy is ranked 36th in Maryland, while Luella is ranked 350th in Georgia). Jones County will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Houston County on Friday.
