Monrovia has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the North Putnam Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Monrovia knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully North Putnam likes a good challenge.
Monrovia pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-64 hit to the loss column at the hands of Beech Grove.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tucker Rahn, who scored 17 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Jayden Jones, who scored 19 points along with seven assists.
Monrovia struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, North Putnam was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 59-54 to Greencastle.
Monrovia's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 3-8. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points per game. As for North Putnam, their loss dropped their record down to 5-8.
Monrovia came up short against North Putnam in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, falling 69-62. Thankfully for Monrovia, Brayden Monnett (who scored 17 points along with five rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
