After flying high against the Tornillo Coyotes last Tuesday, the Kermit Yellow Jackets came back down to earth. Kermit took a 52-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of Alpine on Tuesday. Kermit has not had much luck with Alpine recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Kermit lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Aleixa Lara, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Figueroa Elysha was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Alpine's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Karolina Castillo led the charge by scoring 16 points. Another player making a difference was Novah Carrasco, who scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and five assists.
Kermit has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Alpine, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-14.
Coincidentally, both teams will both be playing Presidio the next time they take the court. Kermit will host Presidio at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, while Alpine will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
