Taytum Spiers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Alyssa Philpot was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when South Oldham and DuPont Manual meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Crimsons. The Dragons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by eight runs or more this season.
Hailey Fackler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Young, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addi Schrecker, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
South Oldham kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DuPont Manual only managed five hits.
Elizabethtown pushed their record up to 6-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for South Oldham, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
Saturday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Elizabethtown hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like South Oldham struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Elizabethtown's way against South Oldham in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Elizabethtown made off with an 8-2 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dragons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
