The Voorheesville Blackbirds will venture away from home to square off against the Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Voorheesville will bounce into Friday's matchup after beating Albany Academy for Boys, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blackbirds never let the Cadets get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Blackbirds, who have now won three games by six runs or more so far this season.
Voorheesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Reno, who went 1-for-2 with one run. Chase Phillips also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk played in-conference for the first time on Wednesday and got just the result they were looking for. They came out on top against Schalmont by a score of 8-5. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Sabres recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Matt Cameron made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alex Halwick, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Haydn Sorensen was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
The victory got Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk back to even at 3-3. As for Voorheesville, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-5-1.
Voorheesville suffered a grim 16-7 defeat to Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Blackbirds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
