The Parker Thundering Herd and the Wenonah Dragons will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 11th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Parker got the win against Fairfield by a conclusive 54-30. Given Parker's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Fairfield is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Wenonah entered their tilt with Bessemer City with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Wenonah breezed by Bessemer City at home to the tune of 63-18.
Samarian Franklin was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 27 points and 10 steals. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Wenonah's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabrielle Blanks, who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
Parker pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.3 points per game. As for Wenonah, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Parker skirted past Wenonah 59-57 in their previous matchup last Thursday. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wenonah's Franklin, who scored 27 points along with 7 rebounds and 7 steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Parker still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
