Mathias Garcia and Nicholas Franzese made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Garcia struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Meanwhile, Franzese struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave Garcia a new career-high in strikeouts. At the plate, Garcia scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Franzese scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Garcia also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Eli Mazeika was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Josh Stasney was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Great Hearts Northern Oaks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .532. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as New Braunfels Christian Academy only posted an OBP of .276.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Randolph, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Nixon-Smiley 21-2 on Tuesday. The Ro-Hawks have beaten the Mustangs the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Mustangs has come to flipping the script.
The win got Randolph back to even at 4-4. As for Great Hearts Northern Oaks, their record is now 5-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Great Hearts Northern Oaks has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Randolph struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Great Hearts Northern Oaks couldn't quite finish off Randolph when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Great Hearts Northern Oaks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
