After both having extra time off, the West Valley Eagles and the Lassen Grizzlies will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season.
West Valley barely beat Yreka the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles blew past the Miners 14-2 last Friday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Aubree Wertz and Cadynce Gippner made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Wertz pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gippner pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Wertz got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Gippner went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave Gippner a new career-high.
In other batting news, Maddy Pemberton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Addy Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Lassen waltzed into their game last Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Panthers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Grizzlies have posted since April 30, 2024.
Cadence Morris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucy Olson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Anarosa Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
West Valley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Lassen, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .379. However, it's not like Lassen struggles in that department as they've averaged .323. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
