Basketball Game Preview: Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals vs. Ord Chanticleers

Doniphan-Trumbull is 10-0 against Ord since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals will square off against the Ord Chanticleers at 7:30 p.m. Doniphan-Trumbull knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Ord likes a good challenge.

Doniphan-Trumbull is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lincoln Christian just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Crusaders by a score of 78-75. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cardinals have suffered since February 10, 2024.

Doniphan-Trumbull might have lost, but man, Jack Poppe was a machine: he dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten assists. That's the most points Poppe has posted since back in December of 2023. Ty Bennett was another key player, going 7 of 17 en route to 21 points.

Meanwhile, Ord fought the good fight in their overtime game against Wood River on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Eagles 60-56.

Ord has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Doniphan-Trumbull, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.

Everything went Doniphan-Trumbull's way against Ord in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Doniphan-Trumbull made off with a 64-39 victory. Does Doniphan-Trumbull have another victory up their sleeve, or will Ord turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
