The Durango Trailblazers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Desert Pines 33-6. While losing is never fun, Durango can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Desert Pines is ranked fourth).
Despite the loss, Durango still got an impressive performance from Daelyn Gray, who rushed for 88 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries. Gray's longest rush was for an incredible 74 yards.
The team won by holding Durango to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Desert Pines' ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out eight times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Steve Manuma and Kenneth Goodwin who racked up four sacks between them.
Durango's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. As for Desert Pines, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
Durango will head out on the road to face off against Foothill at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Desert Pines, they have the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Coronado at 6:00 p.m. on October 26th.
