The Clifton Cubs will head out on the road to face off against the East Bernard Brahmas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Clifton never let their opponents score. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 42-0 victory over Florence. The win made it back-to-back wins for Clifton.
Clifton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Joaquin De la Hoya out in front who rushed for 14 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 55 yards and a touchdown on only four passes. Clifton also got a significant boost from Parker Tunnell, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 84 yards.
Meanwhile, East Bernard waltzed into Friday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They breezed by Rice Consolidated at home to the tune of 37-7. Given East Bernard's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Rice Consolidated is ranked 741st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
East Bernard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clayton Fajkus, who threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 14.5 yards per attempt. Another player making a difference was Maddox Crist, who picked up 159 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Clifton to 5-5 and East Bernard to 7-3.
