Basketball Recap: Gunnison Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Grand Valley on Friday, Gunnison came back down to earth. The Gunnison Cowboys took a 50-33 bruising from the Cedaredge Bruins on Saturday. The Cowboys have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Gunnison lost, don't look at Kylee McDougal. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave McDougal a new career-high. Yaslin Hernandez was another key player, putting up nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cedaredge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carley Malinowski, who went 6 for 15 en route to 17 points along with six assists and six boards. Malinowski is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Abby Brooks, who went 6 of 9 on her way to 12 points and six rebounds.

Gunnison's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Cedaredge, they pushed their record up to 15-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunnison will challenge Meeker at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cedaredge, they will take on North Fork at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Cedaredge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
