Two dominant forwards in Daveion Richardson and Dontrevious Whitaker are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Northwest Halifax Vikings will head out on the road to take on the North Edgecombe Warriors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Halifax is no doubt hoping to put an end to an eight-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
After only 25 points in their last matchup, Northwest Halifax made sure to put some points up on the board against Rocky Mount Prep on Tuesday. Northwest Halifax slipped by Rocky Mount Prep 68-67.
Meanwhile, North Edgecombe came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They escaped with a win against Southeast Halifax by the margin of a single free throw, 59-58. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Edgecombe to victory, but perhaps none more so than Whitaker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Whitaker has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahmir Parker, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Northwest Halifax's win bumped their record up to 3-17. As for North Edgecombe, their win bumped their record up to 15-4.
Northwest Halifax might still be hurting after the 74-52 loss they got from North Edgecombe when the teams last played back in January. Can Northwest Halifax avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
