Wood River hasn't had much luck against Twin Falls recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Wood River will head out to square off against Twin Falls at 3:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Wood River sitting on four straight victories and Twin Falls on five.
While Wood River didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Filer with a sharp 12-4 win last Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Drake Orr made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Caleb Kurtz was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Twin Falls hadn't beaten Capital on the road since March 25, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. Twin Falls blew past Capital 14-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 31, 2017, but that streak is no more.
Like Wood River, Twin Falls also got a great game from a two-way player: Treyson Walker. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Walker has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Cooper Thompson was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Dalton Carter, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.
Twin Falls was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Wood River's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Twin Falls, their record now sits at 7-5.
Wood River's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's contest. Wood River has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.6 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Twin Falls, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Wood River continue to outrun the ball?
Wood River might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Twin Falls in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Wood River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
