Basketball Recap: Coral Academy of Science - Reno Falls Despite Big Games from Madyson Mclaurin and Teleina Smith

Coral Academy of Science - Reno was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Yerington Lions an easy 52-32 victory. One positive for the Falcons, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Coral Academy of Science - Reno's loss came despite strong showings from Teleina Smith and Madyson McLaurin. Smith dropped a double-double on 11 points and 15 rebounds, while McLaurin posted four points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in rebounds.

Even though they lost, Coral Academy of Science - Reno smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Yerington was led to victory by Laney Triplett and Saydee Whistler. Triplett put up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals, while Whistler had 16 points and eight boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Triplett has scored at least a third of Yerington's points. Another player making a difference was Cierra Johnson, who posted six points.

Coral Academy of Science - Reno's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Yerington, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Silver Stage the next time they take the court. Coral Academy of Science - Reno will head out to face Silver Stage at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Yerington will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
