The Burrell Bucs will head out to challenge the Shady Side Academy Bulldogs at 4:15 p.m. on Monday.
Things were looking good for Burrell after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Armstrong, falling 18-12. The Bucs have struggled against the River Hawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Bryce Hrivnak was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Shady Side Academy came out on top against East Allegheny on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run fifth inning. The Bulldogs never let the Wild Cats get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bulldogs.
Ty McCaskey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brady Trischler was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. David Dillon was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Shady Side Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .593. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Burrell's defeat dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Shady Side Academy, their record is now 6-12.
Burrell came up short against Shady Side Academy in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Bucs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
