It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Cedar Crest Falcons take on Cocalico Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Cedar Crest will be strutting in after a victory while Cocalico will be coming in after a loss.
Cedar Crest not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17, 2024. They put the hurt on Lebanon with a sharp 14-8 win. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Cedars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
Mason Cevette made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Cevette was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.
In other batting news, Jackson Custer was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Carson DiBiaso, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Cedar Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .436. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lebanon only posted a batting average of .296.
Meanwhile, Cocalico came up short against Northern Lebanon on Monday, falling 13-2.
Cocalico saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Fox, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Cocalico's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Cedar Crest, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Cocalico's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cedar Crest hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. It's a different story for Cocalico, though, as they've only averaged .215. Will they be able to contain Cedar Crest's hitters?
Cedar Crest beat Cocalico 6-2 in their previous matchup back in May of 2018. Does Cedar Crest have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cocalico turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
