The Shelby Whippets will be playing at home against the Van Wert Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Shelby sitting on four straight wins and Van Wert on five.
Shelby stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 40-0 win over Cleveland Central Catholic. Given Shelby's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Cleveland Central Catholic is ranked 477th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Van Wert strolled past River Valley with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 48-30. Van Wert pushed the score to 41-14 by the end of the third, a deficit River Valley cut but never quite recovered from.
It was another big night for Brylen Parker, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns while completing 74.2% of his passes. Keldyn Bill was another key contributor, rushing for 97 yards and three touchdowns.
Shelby's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 9-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.2 points per game. As for Van Wert, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Shelby was taken down by Van Wert 49-7 in their previous matchup back in November of 2020. Thankfully for Shelby, Owen Treece (who threw for 229 yards and five touchdowns while completing 93.3% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
