Centennial came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Rowlett, falling 13-3.
Rylie Shelton was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Tatum Weghorst was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Poteet never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Terrell on Friday. They blew past the Tigers 12-2. With that win, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Victoria Vasquez made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Vasquez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Priscilla Mata and Faith Castellanos did most of the damage at the plate: Mata went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double, while Castellanos went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Mata a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Arianna Figueroa, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Poteet always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .560. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Centennial's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Poteet, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Centennial hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Poteet struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
