The Moody Blue Devils will head out to take on the Clay-Chalkville Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Moody is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
On Saturday, Moody earned a 12-8 win over Pleasant Grove.
Cole Self made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Self was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryant Hardin, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Braden Wright, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Moody hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasant Grove struck out eight times.
Meanwhile, Clay-Chalkville was able to grind out a solid victory over Oneonta on Saturday, taking the game 7-2.
EJ Thomason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in earned runs (zero).
At the plate, Nic Youngblood was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three). Sean Coleman was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Moody's record is now 6-2. As for Clay-Chalkville, their record is now 3-4.
Everything went Moody's way against Clay-Chalkville when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Moody made off with an 18-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Moody since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
