The Fayette County Tigers entered their tilt with the North Clayton Eagles with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Fayette County came out on top in a nail-biter against North Clayton on Friday and snuck past 59-56. Given Fayette County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 56th, while North Clayton is ranked 430th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fayette County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Donovan Henlon, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Henlon has scored all season. Keith Gillespie was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with three steals.
Despite the defeat, North Clayton had strong showings from Micah Benjamin, who scored 17 points, and Brandon Battle, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Latrell Eaglin, who scored ten points.
Fayette County pushed their record up to 17-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.2 points per game. As for North Clayton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-19.
Fayette County didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-48 victory vs. Trinity Christian on the 10th. North Clayton is on the road again on Monday and plays Troup County at 7:30 p.m. on February 12th. North Clayton is facing Troup County at the right time seeing as Troup County is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
