The Garnet Valley Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge the Haverford Fords at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Garnet Valley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Garnet Valley is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Springfield on Monday. They lost 8-0 to the Cougars. Considering the last time the Jaguars couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.
Meanwhile, Haverford waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Fightin' Tigers, sneaking past 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Fords have posted since March 27th.
Ali Daly was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Daly wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brenna Carfrey, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.
Haverford's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Garnet Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Garnet Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Haverford struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Garnet Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Haverford in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
