The Dobson Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a 55-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mesa. While losing is never fun, Dobson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Mesa is ranked 34th).
Despite the loss, Dobson still got an impressive performance from Donovan Beard, who scored 21 points. The match was Beard's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Bolton, who scored seven points.
Mesa's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Conway Cummard, who scored 23 points along with five rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Cummard has scored at least 25% of Mesa's points. John Petersen was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five rebounds.
Dobson's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 6-6. As for Mesa, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Dobson and Mesquite will round out the year against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at. Mesquite has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 344 points over their last five games. Mesa will be home for the holidays to greet Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
