Jones will venture away from home to face off against Hancock at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jones has given up an average of 12.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Jones couldn't beat Lincoln Park on Monday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Eagles fell 13-8 to the Lions. The Eagles have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Julissa Galvaz and Gabby Prus stepped up to the plate in a big way. Galvaz went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Prus got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Delaney Treccia, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hancock had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Brooks. The result was nothing new for Hancock, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Alyssa Diaz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Chloe Dougherty was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Alex Pinal was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Hancock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher in five consecutive games.
Jones' loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Hancock, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Jones has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hancock struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
