After flying high against the Anclote Sharks last Thursday, the Land O' Lakes Gators came back down to earth. Land O' Lakes lost to Carrollwood Day on the road by a decisive 69-50 margin on Thursday. Land O' Lakes was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Carrollwood Day apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Land O' Lakes lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Lily Meier, who scored 15 points along with seven steals and three blocks. Meier has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Phoebe Reimer, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
It was another big night for Leighann Hanley, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds for Carrollwood Day. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hanley has scored all season. Paula Mungin was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Land O' Lakes' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Carrollwood Day, their victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-8.
Land O' Lakes will head out on the road to square off against Lake Region at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Land O' Lakes focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Carrollwood Day, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Excel Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Carrollwood Day is ranked 265th, while Excel Christian Academy is ranked 256th).
