4A Northern recap October 1, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Clint Sigg and Ryan Bant-Cogburn connected against Windsor. The connection went for 66 yards, the longest such play in 4A Northern this season.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Loveland beat Niwot 48-20. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Travis Lechman was a beast in the backfield as Greeley Central beat Mountain View.
Lechman provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Wildcats defeated the Mountain Lions. Lechman's key target this week was James Desmond, who caught 2 passes for 15 yards.
Cody Johnson made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Wizards fell to Longmont. The 6-foot-0 junior.
Drew Meintzer was the best wideout in the league this week as Thompson Valley topped Greeley West. Meintzer racked up 8 receptions for 122 yards.
Mountain View's Adam Baumann and Bradyn Svendsen have formed a dream team this season, leading 4A Northern in both passing and receiving yards. Baumann has thrown for 773 yards this season, while Svendsen, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 17 catches for 274 yards. The Trojans' Eli Sullivan leads the league in rushing yards with 558.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Longmont takes on the Eagles. As it stands, Doug Johnson's team is in third, while Thompson Valley is in second.
Greeley Central moved up to 119 from 148 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Mike Heatherly's team climbed the ranks as a result of topping Bart Mayes' team 42-27.
