The Ecorse Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Taylor Griffins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Ecorse's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
Taylor's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Tuesday: Ecorse hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Raiders put the hurt on Trillium Academy with a sharp 11-0 victory on Monday. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with Trillium Academy: they've now won nine in a row.
Brayan Santana made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Santana was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jermiah Mack was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Lumumba Collins was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.
Ecorse always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .842. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Taylor hadn't done well against Roosevelt recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Griffins walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Bears.
Like Ecorse, Taylor also got a great game from a two-way player: Jaiden Shufeldt. He struck out seven batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Shufeldt was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that he launched this season.
In other batting news, Carson Morrow was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Taylor is 2-1 when Morrow posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Donovin Hill also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Ecorse now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Taylor, their win ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-3.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ecorse hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Taylor struggles in that department as they've averaged .354. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
