Whittier Christian is a perfect 10-0 against Heritage Christian since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Whittier Christian managed to slip by Valley Christian the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Heralds lost 14-1 to the Defenders on Thursday. Whittier Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Heritage Christian entered their tilt with Maranatha on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Minutemen with a sharp 15-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Summer Hill made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Hill was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Aubrey Akins and Soraya Chavez did most of the damage at the plate: Akins got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Chavez went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Chavez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Campos, who earned two RBI and two runs.
Heritage Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in three consecutive games.
Heritage Christian's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Whittier Christian, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 20-6.
Tuesday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Whittier Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .441. However, it's not like Heritage Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .464. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whittier Christian took their win against Heritage Christian when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 9-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Heralds since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
