Basketball Recap: Micah Smith's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sheridan Hills Christian over Pine Crest

Sheridan Hills Christian was the 69-65 winner over Pine Crest when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Sheridan Hills Christian Sharks took a 66-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pine Crest Panthers on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Sharks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 509th, while the Panthers are ranked 135th).

Sheridan Hills Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Micah Smith, who posted ten points along with six rebounds and four blocks. Smith has been hot, having posted two or more blocks the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Gonzalez, who put up 11 points.

Pine Crest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rowan Hoffman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Ethan Mott was another key player, putting up 16 points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Sheridan Hills Christian and nudges their season record down to 5-7. As for Pine Crest, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-2.

Sheridan Hills Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-56 loss against FAU High on the 9th. As for Pine Crest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-28 victory against West Boca Raton on the 9th.
