Madelyn Hopper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zoe Uribes, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jada Uribes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Montpelier lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Holgate faced off against Miller City on Monday. The Tigers lost 16-8 to the Wildcats. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Mia Kelly and Markee Wilhelm stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kelly went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Wilhelm went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Montpelier's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Holgate, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Holgate's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Montpelier hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374. It's a different story for Holgate, though, as they've only averaged .205. Will they be able to contain Montpelier's hitters?
Montpelier took their win against Holgate in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 22-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Locomotives since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
