Whittier Christian has gone a perfect 10-0 against Valley Christian recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Heralds will be playing in front of their home fans against the Defenders at 3:15 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Whittier Christian 2.8, Valley Christian 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Valley Christian will be up against a hot Whittier Christian team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. The Heralds walked away with a 5-1 win over Schurr last Saturday.
Sofia Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Sofia Hernandez was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Joy Jung, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Whittier Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 16 consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Valley Christian, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Heritage Christian get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Defenders, who have now won nine matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Valley Christian also got a great performance from Rachel Zhang as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Kayla Martin was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Zoee Barrett was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Whittier Christian's win bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Valley Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Whittier Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .378. However, it's not like Valley Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .402. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Whittier Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Valley Christian in their previous meeting on April 8th, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Heralds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Defenders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
