The Olympus Titans will square off against the Timpview Thunderbirds at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Olympus comes in on six and Timpview on seven.
With a playoff game on the line, Olympus rose to the challenge on Friday. They blew past Box Elder 41-14 on the road. With Olympus ahead 31-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Chase Moseley was his usual excellent self, throwing for 380 yards and five touchdowns while completing 92.6% of his passes. Caden Lloyd also helped out as he racked up 127 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Timpview faced Brighton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Timpview put the hurt on Brighton with a sharp 55-35 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for Timpview, who have now won five matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Timpview's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Helaman Casuga led the charge by throwing for 407 yards and three touchdowns. Casuga has been hot recently, having posted 300 or more passing yards the last six times he's played. Taani Makasini made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Timpview's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. Brighton's QB won't forget Matthias Lesa anytime soon given Lesa sacked him four times.
Olympus pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.3 points per game. As for Timpview, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Keep an eye on the quarterbacks in this one, as both Olympus and Timpview don't mess around when it comes to the passing game. Olympus has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 266.3 passing yards per game. However, it's not like Timpview struggles in that department as they've been even better at 321.7 per game. It's looking like Thursday's match might be a classic QB duel. Olympus might still be hurting after the 35-13 defeat they got from Timpview when the teams last played back in October of 2020. Can Olympus avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
