The Sterling Rangers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were dealt a 34-0 defeat at the hands of La Porte. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sterling in their matchups with La Porte: they've now lost seven in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead La Porte to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tyresse Barnes, who rushed for 118 yards on only seven carries. Barnes is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Keenan Lawrence, who rushed for 130 yards on only 14 carries.
Sterling's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-6. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely La Porte, Porter, and Kingwood Park. As for La Porte, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-2.
Sterling will head out on the road to face off against Goose Creek Memorial at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Goose Creek Memorial comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for La Porte, they will be playing at home against Crosby at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Crosby will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 545th, while La Porte is ranked 134th).
