The Madisonville Mustangs will face off against the La Grange Leopards at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Madisonville will be strutting in after a win while La Grange will be coming in after a defeat.
Madisonville put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They breezed by Salado at home to the tune of 56-14. Given Madisonville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 186th, while Salado is ranked 584th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Madisonville's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Williams, who threw for 271 yards and two touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorenzo Johnson, who picked up 163 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, La Grange's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Cuero 49-17. La Grange has not had much luck with Cuero recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Madisonville's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.8 points per game. As for La Grange, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Everything went Madisonville's way against La Grange in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 as Madisonville made off with a 41-21 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Madisonville since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
