1A Region 2 recap September 10, 2013
Ladaris Johnson and Ricky Fleming provided fans with a highlight when they connected against West Tallahatchie. The connection went for 68 yards, the longest such play in 1A Region 2 this season.
Durant's Jordan Ellis recorded the longest rushing play in the league this season in his game against Williams Sullivan last week. Ellis' team beat the Yellowjackets as he sprinted for 68 yards on the play and finished with 75 in all.
Matthew Foley was the best receiver in the league this week as St. Aloysius lost to St. Joseph Catholic. Foley tallied 5 receptions for 85 yards.
Connor Smith was the best running back in 1A Region 2 this week. He ran for 110 yards on 11 carries as the Flashes fell to the Bruins. Teammate Douglas Busari added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
Kentarious Adams was a key player and the best on defense this week as Brooks lost to West Bolivar. He.
Johnson put up the best numbers through the air as Kennedy topped the Choctaws. He finished with a total of 5 completions for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Smith was a passing and rushing force as St. Aloysius lost to St. Joseph Catholic.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, St. Joseph's Devonte Mcpherson and Demanuel Bailey have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-1 quarterback Mcpherson has thrown for 504 yards this season, while Bailey has 7 catches for 258 yards. Smith from Bobby Smithhart's team leads the league in rushing with 245 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Shaw takes on Durant. The Hawks are in sixth place, while Quentin Fairley's team is in second place.
The Hornets were the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from eighth to third in the league. Kennedy defeated West Tallahatchie 26-22 earlier in the week.
