Softball Game Preview: Clear Lake Lions vs. Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS

Clear Lake has gone 7-1 against Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Lions will face off against Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS at 7:30 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Clear Lake and Algona, and Algona kept the tradition alive. The Lions took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bulldogs on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Meanwhile, Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against St. Edmond, falling 19-0.

Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS' defeat dropped their record down to 0-10. As for Clear Lake, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 10-5.

Clear Lake took their win against Clarion-Goldfield/DOWS in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 13-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
