La Jolla is 6-1 against Kearny since March of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will host the Komets at 4:00 p.m. La Jolla knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Kearny likes a good challenge.
On Thursday, La Jolla earned a 17-12 win over San Ysidro.
Jacey Taylor was excellent, firing off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Lily Fernandes, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
La Jolla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .375 or higher in seven consecutive matchups.
Kearny not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 9, 2025 (when they won 18-5). They put the hurt on Crawford with a sharp 13-3 victory. The game was the first time the Komets have beaten the Colts on their field since May 14, 2021.
Makiyah Manning was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Manning was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double.
In other batting news, Kearny got a big performance out of Victoria Ortega, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Xayala Gvozdenic was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one double.
La Jolla's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Kearny, their win bumped their record up to 6-11.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. La Jolla has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .562. However, it's not like Kearny struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
La Jolla got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Kearny by a conclusive 18-4 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Komets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
