The Cozad Haymakers and the Wood River Eagles will round out the year against one another at 6:15 p.m. on Friday at. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Cozad sitting on seven straight victories and Wood River on four.
Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up 17 more assists than your opponent, a fact Cozad proved on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Superior 61-23 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-9.
Cozad found their leader in underclassman Olliver Davis, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and six steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Davis has scored at least 25% of Cozad's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Shoemaker, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Wood River slipped by Cross County 51-50 on Thursday.
Cozad pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Wood River, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Cozad came up short against Wood River in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, falling 51-46. Can Cozad avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
