Jacob Smith and Luke Palan provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Cumberland. The connection was good for 75 yards, the longest such play in Western Illinois Valley - South this season.
Carrollton extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Pirates, 25-0. The victory was the ninth in a row for the team.
Carrollton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Smith threw for 232 and two touchdowns and Palan had 117 yards receiving. On the ground Clay Duba chipped in 67 yards. Jordan Harr helped Carrollton's passing attack out by catching seven balls for 110 yards.
Nick Flowers' team's Smith and Palan have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Smith has thrown for 934 yards this season, while Palan, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 21 catches for 354 yards. Seth Steroemer from Pleasant Hill/Western leads the league in rushing with 1255 yards.
The Hawks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,554 from 5,658. The advance stemmed from a 25-0 victory over Cumberland last week.
