Mater Bay Academy is 0-3 against Florida Christian since February of 2024 but things could change on Wednesday. The Mater Bay Academy Rays will square off against the Florida Christian Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Mater Bay Academy has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Mater Bay Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 16 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Miami Christian on Monday. They came up short against the Victors, falling 13-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rays have suffered since April 18, 2024.
Mater Bay Academy saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alana Mclaughlin, who went 2-for-3 with one home run.
Meanwhile, while Florida Christian put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Immaculata-La Salle. Florida Christian was the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Immaculata-La Salle. The result was nothing new for the Patriots, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Shaun Fernandez and Kayla Diaz made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Fernandez tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Diaz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fernandez has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Fernandez scored three runs while going 2-for-2, while Diaz scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Diaz a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, Charlee Arana was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Kianny Gil was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Florida Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Immaculata-La Salle only posted an OBP of .000.
Florida Christian's record is now 9-4. As for Mater Bay Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mater Bay Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Florida Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .332. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mater Bay Academy might still be hurting after the 17-1 defeat they got from Florida Christian in their previous matchup back in February. Can Mater Bay Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
