Basketball Recap: Southwest Piles Up the Points Against Blanco

Southwest's tournament run continued when they took on Blanco on Friday. The Southwest Dragons took their match with ease, bagging a 50-23 win over the Blanco Panthers.

Southwest found their leader in sophomore Genaya Santos, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 17 points. What's more, Santos also racked up three assists, the most she's had since back in November. Geanna Martinez was another key player, putting up six points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Southwest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. They are 7-13 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Carleigh Dotson, who posted four points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Silva, who put up three points and four steals.

Southwest has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-16 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.8 points per game. As for Blanco, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Southwest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 45-41 victory against Randolph on the 28th. As for Blanco, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-21 defeat against Jarrell on the 28th.
