The Kearney Bearcats can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Saturday. They put the hurt on Lincoln Northeast with a sharp 74-49 win. Given Kearney's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Lincoln Northeast is ranked 132nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kearney found their leader in underclassman Jacob Webber, who scored 28 points along with eight rebounds. It was the first time this season that Webber pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Endorf, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Lincoln Northeast lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hayden Tenopir, who scored ten points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Mowafag A abdalla, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Kearney has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Lincoln Northeast, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-12.
Kearney will head out on the road to challenge Westview at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kearney knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 matchups -- so hopefully Westview likes a good challenge. As for Lincoln Northeast, they will head out on the road to square off against Buena Vista at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Buena Vista is on a six-game streak of home losses, Lincoln Northeast a three-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
